Default Battery Draw

Hello, I have a 2001 Honda Gold Wing with a MC-HON-AMK and a bta6100, love the sound. I am having a problem though. With the amp connected it will kill my battery in 6 days, when it's unplugged it will last 3 weeks+, plug it back in and dead in 6 days again. I have a 10 volt draw between the ground wire when disconnected and the ground, any ideas??? Dave

Dave, It sounds like the auto turn on feature is staying on are you using our fast harness or did you hardwire this in ?If you hardwired it in you need to find a wire that turns off with the ignition so both amps shut down .

Regards,
Red

Dave, Make sure you have the ground wire on the aluminum frame under the seat .and check to see if the amps are turning off when you turn the key off .Remember if you play your system when the motor IS NOT running it will drain your battery very quick .As in any audio systen the griound is the key to proper operation .

Regards.

Hey Red, Yes I have the ground on the aluminum frame, I checked the resistance from the ground connector at the amp to the frame ground and It's 0. The light on the amp is out until the key is turned on. Noticed when disconnecting the ground wire at the amp I get a large spark.

I've had the same issue on my HD... If I was not riding every 2-3 days, battery would be to low to start the bike... the "auto-shutoff" feature just does not work well on these amps...

two options..
1. run red power wire to a switch power wire, normally headlights work well... issue here is make sure you pick a power circut that can handle the extra current the amp will draw
2. install a $6.00 automotive relay, which is what I did. This allows you to power directly from the battery, but uses min current from a swiched power source to turn the relay on.

Hopefully you have figured everything out by now on your bike and you are back on the road, or if you live anywhere near me, Chicago, then you are in your off season and just waiting til it gets nice again and the foot plus of snow melts. Since I am literally snowed in I decided to make an online map of routes I should try around the world.
