What is wrong?

I have an older bazooka amp, because im putting it in my older 84 pickup and its only powering two kicker 8s.
It was working perfect when i hooked it up, and if im idling it worked fine, but about 5 mins after starting driving anywhere the subs will cut out, and the amp (which is usually lit blue) lights up red.
Ive checked all the connections and dont know what it could be. I redid my ground and the power source, and then checked my battery (which is brand new). Have no idea.

What model amp is it. And what is the ohm load of the woofers and how are they wired?

The alternator is probably a CS21. The 12's and 21's are internally regulated, however, There have been many that disfunction and charge at 16 volts or more. Check the voltage at the battery from idle to 3000rpm. If the voltage exceeds 14.8 volts, have the alternator service.

I intended to include that Geneh's response is your most likely scenario. Use a DMM to confirm a 4ohm load in bridged mode. It should read 3.2 - 3.8ohms. If your impedence load is correct then check the output voltage of your alternator. At idle it should read 13.5 - 14.2volts and should not exceed 14.8volts at any rpm.
