has anyone put a raw woffer in a bass tube?
I have a 10" bass tube at home but the origional speaker is old. I want to replace the speaker but was wondering if the newer raw speakers will give a better bass. Does any have any experience in switching the speakers?

hey jlaudio, i put a JL8w6 in my 8" tube and it sounded awesome, and looked really cool inverted. put a junker 10" in there and it will sound like poo i imagine, but that w6 suited it well.
is yours passive or amped? if it's amped it probably doesn't put out too much power so i would bypass the internal amp and use a different one...if it's a passive model...then you're set.

dwh4784 thanks for the info but i was thinking about getting another bazooka speaker like the rsw 1024. My tube is not amped. I have a 600 watt kenwood redy for the powering. [ So has anyone put a rs speaker in the bass tube before?]

the RSW1024 is a nice sub, i have one i'm selling if you would be interested. they have pretty small box size requirements, so the ported tube might be a pretty good match for it.
600 watt kenwood eh? thats probably max rating knowing kenwood, but if it's 300 watts RMS then that would push the RS 10 nicely.
sorry i would try it out but i don't think my 10 would fit in my 8" tube.<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

alpine amps over kenwood anyday. i have a kenwood and it's ok but it gets really hot and the RMS is less than half of what's slapped on the front.
as for my sub, i don't have any pics, but it flawless. no scuffs or anything. i could give it to you for $50 shipped in the original box.

is the JL in my tube?? not right now, the surround ripped BAD on it so we took it out, and i'm not really sure where it is now. the tube is empty, i still have the original sub but i don't have any reason to put it back in there.

It may sound good, or it may not.
The bass tube is simply a ported enclosure. I am guessing that it will have an effect on tuning...for better or worse, if the sub is changed out.
If you put a higher output sub in the tube, it may cause port noise since the EL tube woofers are not high excursion drivers. The port is a little small.
