Without seeing the speaker itself, it is hard to say what happened. Given the unit is 5 years old, it could have simply fatigued over time and/or a lead wire might have shorted. My guess is that when you replace the woofer, you will get many more years of enjoyment from your tube.

I am suspecting it is more likely to be a broken lead wire. 5 years is a long time. With todays music content and recording tactics, anything over 2 years with any sub is amazing.
